Meeting between China’s Foreign Minister ‍Wang Yi and Tanzania’s Minister for ⁢Foreign Affairs and East⁣ African Co-operation, January Yusuf Makamba, occurred in Beijing on May 17, ⁢2024. Wang Yi expressed China’s readiness to collaborate with Tanzania to amplify the global impact of the China-Africa Dar es⁢ Salaam Consensus in ⁢order to uphold⁣ the collective interests of the⁢ Global South.

Authored by Ambassador Gert Grobler

The Africa-China ⁣Dar es Salaam Consensus serves as a channel for the unified voice of ⁢the Global South. It advocates⁤ for a deepening of development collaboration grounded in principles like mutual respect, solidarity, mutually beneficial co-operation, openness, and shared prosperity.

Additionally, the Consensus stresses ⁣the importance of peaceful conflict resolution, ⁤the preservation of historical and cultural traditions, and addressing the unique circumstances of individual nations.

Through the ⁣Dar es Salaam Consensus, Africa and China have committed to collectively opposing remnants of ⁤colonialism and hegemony while supporting each other in‍ protecting core interests⁤ and upholding the rightful demands of developing nations.

Advocating Dialogues for Peace

A central aspect of the‍ Consensus is the promotion of dialogue to⁤ bridge differences and collaborate on resolving global and regional issues, thereby promoting peace‌ and ⁢stability worldwide. ‍This inclusive ⁢approach bodes well for not just Africa and China but for the broader Global South and beyond.

The foundation⁢ of Africa-China cooperation lies in‌ mutual benefit⁣ and‌ shared development, ⁢principles that drive the Africa-China Dar es Salaam‌ Consensus. Such collaboration goes beyond‍ rhetoric and emphasizes tangible outcomes.

Key Highlights of Africa-China Collaboration

  • Africa’s ‌projected population growth by 2050 positions ⁢the continent’s youthful ⁢consumer market as a key driver of global demand across various sectors.
  • Trade between Africa and China reached a record $282 billion in‌ 2023, showcasing Beijing’s efforts to ‌boost imports from ⁤Africa.
  • China’s active involvement ⁢in the African ⁢Continental Free Trade Area will contribute⁣ to its successful implementation, as recognized ‍by the ‍World Bank as a transformative initiative.

The expanding‍ cooperation between Africa and⁤ China not only benefits the two parties involved but also paves the way for‍ enhanced international collaboration and a reshaping of the global order, fostering ‌a fair and ⁣secure environment.

Amidst global challenges, Africa and China are aligning with‌ other⁣ Global‍ South nations to address shared concerns and promote a more equitable international system.

China’s role as a prominent player within the Global South⁤ signifies a commitment to supporting developing countries and sharing ⁣its successful development experiences for mutual growth.

Future⁢ Prospects and Collaborative Initiatives

The China-Africa partnership looks toward deeper engagement with ‍global initiatives to advance solidarity, cooperation, and alignment with international agendas for ⁢sustainable ⁤development.

Efforts such as the Belt‌ and Road Initiative, the Global Development Initiative, Global Security Initiative, and Global Civilization Initiative aim to propel global modernization and prosperity.

Further, the evolving ⁣BRICS alliance of emerging economies upholds principles of fairness, inclusivity,‌ and representation, demonstrating a shared commitment ‌to shaping a more just ⁢international order.

By embracing the ideals of the Africa-China Dar es Salaam Consensus, Africa ‍reinforces its stance on defending sovereignty, ⁢security, and development interests alongside China, rejecting unilateralism and⁣ promoting global peace and equity.
