They were allegedly found in possession of two 107 mm rockets and launchers. Following this, two additional suspects were taken into custody the next day, resulting in the discovery of another rocket. Subsequently, four more individuals were detained in connection to the alleged assassination attempt, as reported by media channels affiliated with the junta.
The Dark Shadow – a guerrilla group based in Yangon – disclosed that four of the arrested individuals were affiliated with their organization, with two of them reportedly succumbing to torture during the interrogation process.
In a statement, the spokesperson for the group mentioned, “Comrade Shein Myint Mo Aung and Comrade Zaw Gyi perished during the interrogation process. The exact date of their demise remains unclear, but it occurred at the Ba Yint Naung Military Interrogation Center. As for the other Dark Shadow members, Myo Thein Tun and Ye Zaw Tun, their whereabouts are unknown, leaving us uncertain of their current status.”
According to Myanma Alin, a newspaper under junta control, members of urban guerrilla factions were detained by junta forces on suspicions of orchestrating a plot to eliminate Min Aung Hlaing on June 17, 2024.
