Urgent Repatriation Efforts Underway: Over 770 Indian ⁤Students Safely ‌Return Home From ‍Bangladesh Amidst Unrest

Amidst the ongoing unrest in Bangladesh, over 770 Indian students ⁣have been safely repatriated back to their homeland in a collaborative effort between the Indian and Bangladeshi governments. The students, who were studying in various universities across Bangladesh, were stranded due to the escalating political turmoil and violence in the country.

The Urgent Repatriation Efforts

The repatriation⁢ efforts were initiated after‌ the Indian⁣ government⁤ received⁤ distress calls from the stranded students and their worried families. In response to the urgent situation, the Indian High ⁢Commission in Bangladesh coordinated with the Bangladeshi⁢ authorities to facilitate the safe return of the students to India.

  • Indian‌ High Commission in Bangladesh activated helplines for assistance
  • Special flights arranged to ⁢bring back the ⁢stranded students

The successful⁢ repatriation efforts serve as a testament to the effective coordination between the Indian and Bangladeshi authorities in‍ ensuring the safety and well-being of Indian students in times of crisis. The collaborative efforts undertaken during such challenging times demonstrate the importance of diplomatic relations and mutual assistance between nations.

Repatriation ‍of Indian Students from Bangladesh

The ‌recent announcement from the Ministry of External⁣ Affairs (MEA) ‍revealed‌ that a total of 778 Indian students ‍have safely returned to India from Bangladesh‍ through different land borders. This development comes amidst the backdrop⁤ of escalating violence in Bangladesh triggered by a controversial job quota system, leading to widespread unrest.

Safety and Communication Measures

The MEA highlighted the ‍proactive approach of Indian missions in Bangladesh⁢ in closely coordinating with local⁤ authorities to ensure‍ the safety and well-being of⁤ Indian‌ citizens and students. Specifically, they mentioned that 778 students successfully crossed back⁤ into India via various⁣ land‍ ports, with ongoing communication ‌and support ⁢extended to approximately 4000‌ more individuals. Furthermore, about 200 students have also⁤ returned to India via regular flights departing from Dhaka and Chittagong airports.

It is⁢ worth noting that the unrest in Bangladesh has resulted in tragic casualties, with‍ over 105 lives lost and more than 1,500 individuals sustaining injuries across 47 districts. ⁢The student-led⁢ protests demanding the removal of the contentious⁤ job quota system have been ⁢a focal point of the violence, claiming the lives of over 50 people in ⁢recent weeks.

Collaborative Efforts and Assistance

The MEA spokesperson, Randhir⁣ Jaiswal, estimated that there are approximately ⁣15,000 Indian nationals living in Bangladesh. To ⁣facilitate ⁣their safe return, the Indian High ‌Commission in Dhaka, along with assistant high⁤ commissions ⁤in Chittagong, Rajshahi, Sylhet, and⁢ Khulna,‌ has⁣ been actively involved in assisting Indian nationals during this challenging period.

Additionally, the MEA emphasized ⁣the collaboration between ⁤Indian diplomatic missions and local authorities to ensure safe passage ⁣to border ‌checkpoints along the India-Bangladesh border. They have been working closely with civil aviation, immigration, land⁣ ports, and BSF authorities ‍to⁤ streamline the repatriation process⁢ for Indian citizens.

Support ⁤and Security⁢ Measures

Continuing their efforts, the MEA ‌disclosed ⁣that security escorts are provided as needed to guarantee the safe journey of students⁤ returning by road through designated land ports. Moreover, ongoing ‍communication and ‌assistance are being extended to over ⁤4,000 students studying at various⁢ universities ‍in Bangladesh, with similar ‌support offered to students ⁣from⁤ Nepal and Bhutan⁣ upon request.

the Indian High Commission in Dhaka is working in conjunction with Bangladeshi civil aviation authorities and commercial airlines to ensure uninterrupted flight services from Dhaka and Chittagong to ⁢India, facilitating ⁢the return⁤ journeys of Indian citizens.
