The National Monument in Jakarta: A Tourist Destination

One of the must-visit destinations in Jakarta for⁢ tourists, especially those coming from⁢ outside the capital city, is the‍ National Monument, ⁤also known as ⁢Monas. Visitors have the ⁢opportunity to take a leisurely stroll around the monument or ascend to ‌the top, which offers a breathtaking panoramic view of Jakarta.

Extended Operating Hours Under Consideration

The⁤ current operating hours of the National Monument are from ⁣08:00 to ⁣16:00 WIB (Western Indonesia Time) daily to ensure the safety and convenience of visitors. However, Isa Sanuri, the Head ‌of the Monas Area Management Unit (UPK), is ‌contemplating extending ⁣the ‍operating hours, possibly until 10 p.m., particularly on⁣ Saturdays ⁤and Sundays, to allow people to enjoy the beauty of the Monas area at night and partake in⁣ other activities.

Sanuri⁤ mentioned that a thorough analysis is⁤ being conducted regarding the feasibility of ‌extending the visiting hours. The key focus ⁤remains on ensuring the safety and comfort of⁤ all visitors.

Security and Comfort as Top Priority

The current ⁤operating ⁤hours‌ of Monas have been in place since 2022, deemed as the most suitable timeframe ensuring the safety and comfort of⁢ visitors. Due to the upcoming political events, extending the operating hours into the night is still‌ under evaluation.

Sanuri stressed that the limitation ⁢of operating hours was determined through dialogue and‌ coordination with security agencies ⁤to prioritize the safety and ‌comfort of all visitors.

A Glimpse into ⁢Monas’ History

The National Monument, standing⁣ at a height of 132 meters within an 80-hectare⁢ area, serves various purposes such as tourism, education, exhibitions, and‍ hosting official state events.

Construction of Monas commenced ‌on August 17, 1961, marked by the installation of the first pile by Indonesia’s first ⁢President, Sukarno. Despite facing challenges after Sukarno’s term ended in 1967, construction resumed in 1969 under⁤ the supervision of local architects Soedarsono and F. Silaban. The iconic Monas, featuring a ‌32-kilogram ⁢gold crown, was officially inaugurated in 1975.
