Severe flooding has occurred in parts of India and Bangladesh, leaving hundreds of thousands of people stranded ‍in‍ India’s northeast and eastern Bangladesh.

In Bangladesh, which is⁣ still recovering ‌from recent political unrest, the death toll has reached 13 as of Friday.

Reports from the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief indicate⁤ that around 4.5 ⁢million individuals have been affected by the floods in eastern Bangladesh.

Amid heavy‌ rains triggering⁢ floods and landslides, soldiers in ‌lifeboats have ‍been rescuing people in⁢ India’s northeastern state of Tripura. Over 65,000 ⁤individuals have been displaced from their‍ homes and at least 23 fatalities have been reported so far.

Images broadcasted on⁣ television show army personnel conducting ‌rescue operations while vehicles remain stuck in flooded streets.⁣ Disaster management officials attribute the situation to four consecutive days of relentless rain causing river levels to rise significantly.

To accommodate⁢ those affected, authorities ‌have set up‌ 450 relief camps in Tripura where approximately 1.7 ⁤million people are grappling with the aftermath including substantial damage to ⁣infrastructure, crops, and livestock.

The torrential rains not only impacted Tripura but also wreaked havoc in multiple areas across eastern ⁤Bangladesh. Residents in severely affected districts such as Cumilla, Feni, and Noakhali requested urgent assistance as electricity supply was⁣ disrupted⁣ and transportation links were severed.

The‍ capital ⁢city Dhaka‌ faced disruptions with‌ communication halted between ⁢Chittagong due to sections of ‌a key highway being‍ submerged underwater during this calamitous event.
