The Secret to America’s Happiest Employees: Working In-Office 5 Days a Week in 2024

New Information Shows In-Office Work Can Lead to ⁤Happier Employees

This week marks The International Week of Happiness‍ at⁤ Work, ‍an initiative that seeks to foster⁢ discussions about normalizing happiness in the workplace. ‌Recent findings reveal ‍that some of the happiest employees in the United States are those who work⁣ in-office full time, five days a week.

Contrary to previous claims suggesting that remote work boosts employee happiness by 20%, ⁤Amanda Okill, principal consultant at work behavior and culture consultancy at Byrne Dean, warns about ‌the negative impact of remote working on employee happiness. According to her, ‌loneliness has become a significant obstacle for those working remotely. Citing Gallup statistics indicating that 20% of employees worldwide experience daily loneliness and an even higher rate (25%)⁤ among remote workers. She likens this loneliness to being like “small floating islands”, emphasizing how it hinders genuine connections.

To further ‌support Okill’s argument, Comparably recently released its annual list of top companies ‌with‌ the happiest ⁢employees in the United ‍States for 2024. Notably, Paycom ranks number five on this list and ‌their employees adhere to a full-time⁢ in-office schedule. Jennifer Kraszewski, ⁤Paycom’s Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO), attributes their high level of employee satisfaction not only due to their belief that work-life balance isn’t exclusive to remote or hybrid employees but also through clear⁤ boundaries between work and home life made possible by working in-office.

Kraszewski stressed how important social interactions and collaboration at work are key contributors leading Paycom’s top ranking as one with happy employees in 2024 by Comparably while citing Microsoft’s 2022 ‍survey results‌ indicating how socializing with co-workers play a role as motivator for choosing ⁤traditional office-based employment. “Remote⁤ or hybrid work can also make it much more ⁢difficult,” she added pointing out how distant ‌lines⁤ between ‘work⁢ time’ and ‘home time’ can lead increased difficulty establishing barriers between professional hours and personal ⁣life.
