Vietnam President Affirms Strong Support for Cuba on Official Visit

Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel recently met with Vietnamese President To Lam in ⁣Havana, where​ several bilateral agreements were signed between the two countries. “The world has witnessed many changes, but the enduring friendship and solidarity between ‍Vietnam and Cuba ⁣remain steadfast,” stated To Lam, who ‌is 67 years old, as cited by‍ the ⁣Cuban presidency.

During their meeting, the two leaders toured the‍ commercial port⁣ of Mariel,‍ a ​free trade zone located approximately 37 miles (60 kilometers) from the capital. It was reported that ⁢multiple Vietnamese companies⁢ are⁤ currently operating in this area. Notably, Cuba and Vietnam both have single Communist Party governance; however, Hanoi has made strides in liberalizing its economy⁤ while ⁤Havana has ⁢not followed suit.

Among ​the agreements signed during President To Lam’s visit were those​ related⁢ to health and agriculture. Additionally, an initiative for rice‌ production utilizing hybrid‌ seeds imported from Vietnam was announced. The bilateral trade volume between Cuba and Vietnam amounts to approximately ⁢$340 million. Key exports from Vietnam to Cuba include rice, coal, ​chemicals, textiles and electronics while imports comprise pharmaceutical products.

Vietnam President Affirms ⁤Strong Support for Cuba on Official Visit

On⁤ November 15, 2021, Vietnam President Nguyen Xuan Phuc visited Cuba to reaffirm the strong support of Vietnam for the ​Cuban government and people. The‌ official visit was ‍aimed at boosting bilateral relations and exploring opportunities for cooperation in various sectors. He emphasized ‌the importance of providing support to help overcome any present difficulties that may⁤ hinder these goals. It is worth noting that President To Lam took⁣ office at ⁢the beginning of August as head ⁣of Vietnam’s Communist Party after his predecessor Nguyen Phu Trong passed away.
