A group of 85 Bangladeshi citizens has recently returned to Cox’s Bazar from Myanmar following their release from imprisonment. The returnees were transported by the Myanmar Naval Ship UMS Chin Dwin, as part of the ongoing efforts to repatriate members of the Myanmar defense force who were displaced to Bangladesh due to conflicts in Rakhine State.
The ship departed from Sittwe port in Rakhine and arrived in Cox’s Bazar with the returnees on Sunday. The group consisted of individuals who had been held in Mawlamyine prison, Pathein prison, Kyaikmaraw prison, and others from Rakhine.

Of the 85 individuals, 56 hailed from Cox’s Bazar, Narayanganj, Narsingdi district while the rest were from Bandarban, Rangamati, Khagrachari , Noakhali and Dhaka. This successful repatriation was made possible through the dedicated efforts of both the Bangladesh embassy in Yangon and the Bangladesh consulate in Sittwe.
Over a span of 15 months, a total of 332 Bangladeshi nationals have been assisted by the Bangladesh embassy in Myanmar for their return home. In a recent instance on June 8th ,45 Bangladeshi citizens were successfully repatriated with coordination between Bangladesh embassy Yangon and consulate Sittwe for verification documents & travel permits issued alongside communication with local authorities have been coordinated.
