Samoa’s Fight for a Spot at FIFA World Cup 2026™: Oceania Qualifiers

Samoa’s coach, Jess Ibrom,‍ is hopeful about his team’s performance ⁣in the ⁢upcoming FIFA World Cup 26™ Oceania Qualifying group stage matches in ⁤October and November. The fixtures include games against Vanuatu in Port Vila, Tahiti in Hamilton, and New Zealand in ⁤Auckland.

Ibrom emphasizes that there are no ‌easy games in World Cup qualifiers and stresses the importance of results. He points out the tough competition and unexpected‍ upsets seen worldwide. Despite playing on home soil during September’s qualifiers against ⁤American Samoa and Tonga, Samoa emerged⁣ victorious.

The match against Vanuatu poses a unique challenge due to the intense football culture‍ of Port Vila. Ibrom highlights that although it ‌will be difficult for his‍ team, Vanuatu faces substantial pressure as the home team.

Preparations for the upcoming November matches have also begun while acknowledging they will be facing elite football players from New Zealand. He remarks on ⁣a large gap between New Zealand and other countries in this region but believes his players can showcase themselves positively.

For⁤ the first time ever, Oceania has been granted direct entry to the FIFA World Cup™ with an additional place⁤ available through playoffs for teams finishing as runners-up – something which Ibrom sees as a realistic goal for Samoa with diligent preparation.

Ibrom envisions creating a young squad over four years leading up to FIFA World Cup 2030™ Oceania Qualifiers while drawing‌ inspiration from Samoa’s U-16 Women’s side⁣ who recently made history by reaching the final of the OFC U-16 Women’s Championship.

The coach is optimistic about shifting rugby’s dominance in Samoan sports ⁤culture by qualifying for world cups like their women’s U-16 ‌team did recently at the OFC tournament.

Ibrom says it marks an important milestone not only internally ‌within the federation but ⁣also across Samoan media outlets where everyone is celebrating this historic achievement.
