Vibrant atmosphere at the Preview of Zona Maco 2025 in Mexico City

On February 5, prestigious attendees flocked ⁢to the expansive Centro Citibanamex⁤ for the‌ highly anticipated preview ⁢of Zona ⁤Maco, a prominent art fair⁣ featuring over 220 galleries from various sectors. Despite‍ geopolitical tensions and concerns regarding potential tariffs on imports from Mexico, initially proposed⁣ by U.S. President Donald Trump—recently postponed for at ⁢least a month—the overall atmosphere remained⁣ buoyant and energized.

“Many Americans have asked if ⁤we‌ are anxious⁣ about tariffs, but it seems that those most ⁣uneasy are actually Americans ⁤themselves,” ‍commented an employee from labor gallery, one of Mexico’s leading establishments.⁣ “Today has ⁣proven quite successful; our visitors include diverse individuals from the U.S., Canada, Europe, and even Russia,” he ⁢noted.

Showcasing Artistic Talent

Labor’s ⁢presentation included striking works by French artist Étienne Chambaud—a concurrent solo exhibition housed⁣ within Labor’s ⁤gallery space in Miguel Hidalgo—where he displayed wall-based pieces crafted from antique icon⁢ paintings nearly engulfed in lavish gold paint. These unique artworks carry price tags ranging⁢ between $14,000 and $31,500 each.

Similarly notable is OMR gallery’s showcase at Zona⁣ Maco which emphasizes renowned talents ‍such as Eduardo Sarabia⁢ (originally from‍ Los Angeles but based in Guadalajara),Claudia Comte hailing from Switzerland, and Denmark’s Superflex ‌collective.

A Unique Approach to Art fair Influence

louise Carla Sala of Kurimanzutto remarked on their strategy during this inclusive fair: ‍“At some exhibitions we may take a focused approach; however here at Zona Maco we aim to⁤ present a comprehensive view of our programme.” She emphasized that her establishment feels‌ accountable to showcase it’s best artists due to their stature within⁣ Mexico City’s art‌ scene. Moreover she mentioned its importance for nurturing emerging local collectors: “For many ‌younger mexican collectors this fair offers their ⁣sole chance annually to make significant acquisitions.”

Beyond creating avenues for budding buyers, many exhibitors also recognized museum groups scouring the venue—presumably looking out for new acquisitions or⁣ inspiration⁣ related to ⁤future⁢ exhibitions.

“The Most Enthusiastic Edition yet”

Malik Al-Mahrouky remarked on his surprise with how positively day‍ one unfolded: “We encountered⁢ numerous collectors ‌alongside⁣ institutional⁢ representatives making it an exhilarating occasion,” expressed Al-Mahrouky about Kurimanzutto’s experience during this year’s event (which has expanded operations into New York).“The blend of both national⁤ and international guests they represent combined with quality collections has created a remarkably ⁢successful edition.”
