Hamas Delegation in Cairo Talks Tough on Ceasefire Conditions

This Wednesday, a ⁣delegation from Hamas arrived in⁤ cairo‌ to ‌discuss terms for⁢ a truce concerning Gaza. The Palestinian faction asserted ‌its unwillingness to‍ tolerate ultimatums from the⁢ United⁢ States and Israel, as negotiations appear to have‌ hit a standstill regarding the ceasefire agreement’s execution.

During discussions, Hamas emphasized that Israel must “comply with the established humanitarian protocols.” Spokesperson Hazem Qassem ‌expressed concerns, stating that “the Israeli authorities are neglecting multiple aspects of the ceasefire accord,” according to an AFP report.

Qassem‌ declared, “We are firm in our stance and will not yield⁢ to threats from American or Israeli officials. It is imperative for Israel to honor its‍ commitments under the ceaseless agreement if we expect progress on hostage releases.”

The spokesperson noted ongoing dialogues with mediators aimed at ensuring adherence to the agreement’s‍ terms. “Mediators have assured us that they are actively working to pressure Israel into following through with its obligations under the ceasefire arrangement,” Qassem reported.

A source close to negotiations‍ informed AFP that Egyptian and Qatari mediators were “intensively pursuing” solutions related to the‌ difficulties surrounding this ceasefire pact.

Despite coming into effect last month and largely ceasing ⁤15 months of violent conflict, recent ⁣weeks have put‌ considerable strain on this truce. ‍Consequently, Qatar⁢ and Egypt have ‍initiated new efforts aimed at preserving peace.

According to Hamas’ announcement earlier today, ‌Khalil al-Hayya—who leads their operations in Gaza—has taken charge of discussions with⁢ Egyptian ⁢officials upon their arrival in Cairo. The‌ delegation’s priority remains monitoring how ‌effectively both parties adhere to existing conditions laid out in the ⁣truce.

A high-ranking official within Hamas indicated that discussions will focus⁢ on navigating the current impasse while ensuring Israeli compliance ⁤with agreed-upon stipulations.

On Tuesday prior, ⁤israeli ⁢officials signaled potential resumption of military actions should there be no hostage releases by Saturday—a sentiment echoed by US‌ President donald Trump who warned of important⁣ repercussions if all ⁢captives were not freed by then.

the upcoming sixth exchange between hostages and prisoners is scheduled for Saturday as part of existing agreements;⁣ though, earlier declarations from Hamas suggested postponement due ⁤mainly to Israel’s failure to facilitate essential humanitarian assistance reaching Gaza residents.

A diplomat ⁢familiar with ongoing conversations noted efforts directed toward resolving‍ outstanding disputes between both factions while ensuring compliance with agreements⁣ regarding‌ enthralling hostages’ release.” ⁤According ‌to‍ AFP’s source who preferred‌ anonymity: “Mediators continue their engagement efforts with ⁢both parties involved seeking resolutions conducive towards maintaining commitment toward diplomatic arrangements.”
