A New Chapter in⁤ Sports Tourism

The Solomon Islands is buzzing with anticipation as preparations unfold for a groundbreaking event:‌ the first-ever Oceania Sevens tournament to‌ take place​ beyond​ the borders of Australia, New​ Zealand, ‌and Fiji. This landmark occasion is set for‍ December 7-8 ​at Honiara’s⁢ National Stadium.

Welcoming Athletes and Delegates

More than 500 competitors, officials, journalists, and countless spectators are expected to flock to this island nation in what promises to be an exciting weekend. The tournament serves as a key qualifier for the World Rugby Sevens Challenger Series. Through this event,‌ two men’s teams and one women’s⁣ team will secure their opportunity ‌to shine on an ​international​ platform.

Significance of the Event

Dagnal Dereveke, CEO of Tourism Solomons, emphasizes that this tournament not only showcases athletic excellence but also places the country in front of⁤ a global audience. “It’s an incredible chance for us,” he stated. The successful hosting of the 2023 Pacific Games has already positioned the Solomon Islands favorably within sports‍ tourism circles.

Competing Nations

Among those slated to participate are talented squads from Fiji’s men’s and women’s rugby ⁣teams—teams that have made their⁣ mark internationally and will ‌elevate competition levels during this prestigious event.
