Sudan’s Army Repels RSF Attack in Blue Nile State

On August 3, 2024, Sudan’s army announced that it successfully thwarted an assault by ‌the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Blue Nile state. This marked the first confrontation between the two factions in this region bordering Ethiopia.

Allegations of Civilian Abuses

Various activists have levied accusations against the RSF for perpetrating atrocities against civilians in multiple villages within the vicinity. However, these claims have not been independently corroborated ⁤by Sudan Tribune or any other ‌credible sources.

Battle Details

The skirmish unfolded in the Qali area of Al-Tadamun locality ⁣as outlined ⁢in a statement released by the army on its official Facebook page. According to reports, significant damage was inflicted on RSF combat ⁤vehicles and numerous fighters⁣ were either‍ fatally wounded ‌or captured.

RSF’s Response

In retaliation, the RSF asserted ‍full control over Al-Tadamun and shared footage depicting their presence within what seemed to be a military compound.

Civilian Casualties Report

The resistance committees located in Al-Damazin – the capital city of Blue Nile region – disclosed that RSF militants infiltrated from Sennar state ⁢towards Jariwa and Qali regions. They engaged in violent acts such as killing and looting before being repelled by⁤ government forces at Qali. Tragically, ‌several innocent civilians bore⁤ fatal injuries during this clash.

Since hostilities erupted between Sudan’s army and RSFs on April⁢ 15th⁣ in Khartoum, this conflict has subsequently spilled over‍ into other regions across Sudan including Darfur region. Furthermore, since June, the RSFs has assumed ‍authority overmost parts of Sennar state.
